HI! I'm back! I took a long break over the summer to enjoy some time with my three kids and soak up sunshine. And now I resume my blog with yet another announcement...

I have taken a job at my kids' school working part time as a library paraprofessional!

WOOHOO!

What does that mean? I get to read books to kids ALL DAY LONG! I mean, what's better that THAT?

Here's the thing: life is ironic sometimes. I was a reluctant reader as a kid (though not any more!). And I remember nearly failing library class in elementary school because I couldn't care less about listening to the librarian drone on and on about the Dewy Decimal system. BORING! Funny, because here I am in this new role...teaching kids about how to use the library and directing kids to the shelves to find a book that will fall in love with. Given that my early experiences with the school library were less than inspiring --scratch that, downright UNinspiring-- my goal is to make visiting the school library a FUN experience for my students!

As a newly minted librarian, I'm so excited to work with kindergartners and fifth graders and everything in between. As someone who majored in developmental psychology and enjoys working with all ages, this is my dream come true. Best of all, I get to foster a love of reading, inspire literacy to all grade levels, and show my creative side by creating activities to complement the books we read together.

Now that I am diving into the world of literacy, I will be searching for and digging around other librarian blogs to draw upon their depth of knowledge when it comes to great picture books and chapter books for ages 5-11 year-olds. If you've got any suggestions of blogs I should check out, leave those suggestions in my contact@onlinewhittle.com inbox or in the comments sections below.
